Cardi B Was the Queen of the iHeartRadio Music Awards

Cardi B was the belle of the ball at Sunday night’s iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles, and she dressed the part. Wearing a burgundy tulle dress by Christian Siriano, the 25-year-old rapper took home the award for best new artist, which she dedicated in part to her lovers and haters.

“I wanna thank my fans, Bardi Gang, because even when I’m wrong they be like, ‘She’s still right!’” she said during her acceptance speech. “And I wanna thank my haters too because they be downloading my stuff so they can hear it and talk crap about it, but it benefits me!”

The audience ate it up, including Paris Hilton, who looked at her fiancé, Chris Zylka, and said, “I love her!”

Before giving her speech, in which she also announced an April release date for her new album, Cardi B opened the show with a medley of her singles and features, including “Bodak Yellow,” “Bartier Cardi,” and “No Limit.” Her iHeart win is her first award since being nominated for two Grammys earlier this year for best rap performance and best rap song, both of which she lost to Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble.”

Look up the word "iconic" in the dictionary, and you'll likely see a picture of a somewhat unexpected yet oh-so-glorious duo that emerged during New York Fashion Week: Anna Wintour and Cardi B. The Vogue editor in chief and the rapper ended up sitting next to each other at Alexander Wang's Fall 2018 presentation, and our "Bodak Yellow"-loving hearts could barely handle how legendary it was. Anna was sporting a red coat over a green floral dress with her signature sunglasses, while Cardi wore a black dress with a cropped jacket, thigh-high Steve Madden boots, and a leather head wrap. Honestly, we applaud Cardi B for wearing $100 boots to meet the fashion queen herself.

Needless to say, as soon as Anna and Cardi were photographed together, the internet practically broke, and we're not even mad about it. Look ahead to see a few snaps of the twosome sitting front row at Alexander Wang, along with the most notable Twitter reactions. Will the "Bartier Cardi" rapper grace the cover of Vogue in the near future? Our fingers are officially crossed!

Here's What Cardi B and Anna Wintour Talked About at New York Fashion Week

The internet gagged when a photo of Cardi B and Anna Wintour emerged on Saturday, the unlikely pair sitting side-by-side at the Alexander Wang fall-winter 2018 runway show for New York Fashion Week.

But no one was as surprised to see them together as Cardi B was herself.

“I couldn’t believe it, girl,” the rapper (née Belcalis Almanzar) told E! News. “I couldn’t contain myself, but I kept it together.”

But just what did the two talk about?

“Stuff,” the 25-year-old “Bodak Yellow” rapper said coyly.

Cardi B had a great time at the 2018 Grammys on Sunday!

The "Bodak Yellow" rapper was nominated for two awards at the ceremony and even though she didn't take home the awards, she still appeared to have a blast at the show. Cardi B was accompanied to the show by her sister Hennessy Carolina and the duo posed on the red carpet together. "LOOKING LIKE OUR MOM," Cardi B captioned a photo of herself with her sister on the red carpet.

She also shared a video on Instagram on Sunday of her reaction to receiving a note from Bono!

"Oh my God, I got a f--king note from Bono," Cardi B said. "He knows me!"

Cardi B Talks Topping Billboard Hot 100

When Cardi B’s "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)" hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, she became the first female rapper to top the chart without the assistance of any other credited artists in nearly 19 years.

To celebrate her Hot 100 success, Billboard caught up with Cardi B to find out where she was when she found out that she topped the chart for the first time with "Bodak Yellow."

"I was in Atlantic Records," she says. "Somebody called me like, 'You hit No. 1!' And everybody came in the room like, 'Oh, you hit No. 1!' and it was like a surprise party."

"My whole family was there, and it was just an emotional moment, it’s like winning the lottery," she continues. "I actually felt like, damn! It was more special than my birthday."

Jimmy Fallon Knows He's Not Worthy to Be in Cardi B's Presence

It’s very seldom that late night funnyman Jimmy Fallon is rendered speechless or without a wisecrack, but during Wednesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he seemed to be in perpetual awe of the ebullient, gregarious force of nature known as Cardi B.
Cardi, who’s currently promoting her upcoming single, “Bartier Cardi,” appeared on the show, in a green fur. From the get go, it was clear that Fallon was out of his league; after Cardi responded to Fallon’s congratulations on the success of her ubiquitous club banger “Bodak Yellow” with a shimmy, smile, and a sassy exclamation, Fallon looked visibly shook and needed to pause for a moment before asking the Bronx rapper about her unique moniker, which she answered with candor.

“My name come from…You know what? My sister name is Hennessy,” she said. “You know what I’m saying? My sister name is Hennessy, right? So, everybody used to call be Bacardi. So, I always call myself Bacardi, right?” the rapper, whose birth name is Belcalis Almanzar, said. “Then it was my Instagram name—like Bacardi, Bacardi B—but for some reason, my Instagram kept getting deleted; I think it was Bacardi that had something to do with it so I just shortened it to Cardi B.”
While the pair also discussed Cardi’s recent engagement to fellow rapper, Offset of Migos, her plans for celebrating the holidays this weekend, and her feelings about the Grammys, Fallon remained in complete wonderment of Cardi. Watch his interview with her above.

Cardi B First Female Rapper in 19 Years to Top the Charts
How Cardi B Escaped Poverty to Become the First Female Rapper in 19 Years to Top the Charts
How Cardi B Escaped Poverty to Become the First Female Rapper in 19 Years to Top the Charts

Bronx-born rapper Cardi B has done the impossible. She’s dethroned Taylor Swift to top the Billboard Hot 100, becoming only the second female rapper to ever score a chart topping solo song after Lauryn Hill did so in 1998.

Before her music career, the 24-year-old rapper made her living as a Vine and Instagram celebrity for the past four years, delivering bold, raunchy one-liners in hilarious 6-second clips.

But her backstory is more interesting than that. Here’s how the Cardi B went from working as a stripper in Manhattan to starring on a reality tv to becoming one of today’s most prominent female artists:

Her multiethnic, inner city upbringing shaped her personality.

Belcalis Almanzar, or Cardi B, is known for her distinct Spanish accent and New York street slang. Born to a Trinidadian mother and Dominican father, she spent time between Highbridge, a Latino-majority neighborhood of South Bronx, and her grandmother’s apartment in Washington Heights. Although her parents split when she was a preteen, she grew up with 36 cousins and a dad’s side of the family that loved to joke.

“I have real good parents, they poor. They have regular, poor jobs and what not,” she said in an interview with Global Grind. “They real good people and what not, I was just raised in a bad society.” Cardi B said working as a stripper for 4 years “saved her life.”

Cardi began working as a stripper at 19 after getting fired from her previous job as a cashier. She started at local strip clubs and later worked her way to more lucrative spots in Manhattan.

Through stripping, she was able to earn enough money to become financially independent — enough so, she moved out of her abusive boyfriend’s place. “There was two pit bulls in that house, and I had asthma. There was bedbugs, too,” she told Vibe. “On top of that, I felt like my ex-boyfriend was cheating on me, but it was like even if he was cheating on me, I still can’t leave because—where was I gonna go?”

Cardi B’s hilarious Vines and videos went viral and she became an Internet celeb.

While she was still working as a stripper, Cardi B began her ascent into Internet fame. Her charisma attracted an initial social media following of three thousand strip club regulars, bartenders and “little drug dealers and scammers” who though she was “hot,” according to Fader. On her account, the rapper didn’t shy away from candidly discussing sex, men and making money — leading to multiple viral videos on Vine, Instagram and Twitter.

“You know people be asking me like, ‘what do you does?’ Like, ‘are you a model? Are you like a comedian or something?’ Nah I ain’t none of that. I’m a hoe, I’m a stripper hoe. I’m about this shmoney,” she said in one of her most viral videos.

“Finesse” Bruno Mars Should Remake All His Songs with Cardi B
The “Finesse” Remix Is Proof That Bruno Mars Should Remake All His Songs with Cardi B
The “Finesse” Remix Is Proof That Bruno Mars Should Remake All His Songs with Cardi B

Somewhere along the way, Bruno Mars went from a lovable cornball with a fondness for fedoras to the greatest male performer in the world who now enjoys a wide variety of fun hats. (I would take a bullet for him.) Last night, Mars dropped a music video for the remix of "Finesse," already one of the sleeper jams off 24K Magic, and made the wise decision to pay Cardi B a lot of money for a feature.

Bruno Mars' decision to rebrand as a "32 Things Only ’90s Kids Will Remember" BuzzFeed quiz is truly the greatest musical innovation the world has ever witnessed. It needs its own Harvard Business School case study. It's like getting sucked into a black hole and encountering the fun inverse of Justin Timberlake going full country in a parallel dimension.

And the pairing with Bardi, whose true gift is having more fun than anyone else around her, hits all the feel-good throwback notes that make you nostalgic for a time when the threat of nuclear winter felt slightly less imminent. Let's hope Bruno Mars remixes his whole album and Cardi B is a guest on every single track.

How Bruno Mars And Cardi B's 'Finesse' Choreography Came Alive

Bruno Mars is a walking, talking, Hawaiian avatar of nostalgia. From the top of his pompadour to the bottom of his retro Reeboks, Bruno is a master of reinterpreting the past for a ravenous present. Recently, Bruno's "Finesse" music video featuring Cardi B took everything we love about the '90s — neon apparel, new jack swing, In Living Color — and mashed it into a viral moment.

Phil Tayag was one of the architects of this vision. Credited as the choreographer and creative consultant for "Finesse," Tayag, a founding member of the JabbaWocKeeZ dance crew, helped translate the iconic dancing of the Fly Girls from In Living Color for a new generation. MTV News spoke with him to discuss how "Finesse" came together, what it was like filming the music video, and meeting Cardi B for the first time.

Cardi B, the Female Rapper Who Ousted Taylor Swift from the Top of the Charts

In 2013, a radiant trickster from the South Bronx began uploading videos of herself onto social media. She spouted the rudest New Yorkese. “It feels so good when people throw money on me,” she said in one video. “It feels so good on my skin.” She had a manic tongue and a crooked smile that spread as, bare-faced and head-wrapped, she advised women on how to game the system: “Ever since I started using men, I feel so goddam powerful.” Her skits were shared, aggregated, copied, and blogged about. In 2015, she earned a role on the popular reality-television show “Love & Hip Hop: New York,” in which she played the sexy jester. (“If a girl have beef with me, she gon’ have beef with me forever,” she said in one episode—a warning that instantly became a meme.) She quit her exotic-dancing job, at which men and women had thrown money at her feet. She started to release music, and the music was surprisingly, bullishly, good.

The rise of the twenty-four-year-old Cardi B, born Belcalis Almanzar—who earlier this week became the first solo female rap act to top the Billboard charts since Lauryn Hill, in 1998—is dizzying; it’s almost like a fairy tale, according to the Ringer’s Lindsay Zoladz. Cardi B released her first single, “Cheap Ass Weave,” in the winter of 2015; Atlantic Records signed her before spring. “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” released in June, clawed its way to the informal title of Song of the Summer. In August, Drake invited Cardi B onto the stage at the OVO Festival, in Toronto; the following month, a clip of Janet Jackson milly-rocking to “Bodak” mashed up with “What Have You Done for Me Lately” went viral. By mid-September, “Bodak Yellow” had overtaken Justin Bieber and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito,” to become No. 2 on the Hot 100. Most prognosticators did not expect Cardi B to challenge Taylor Swift, whose comeback single, “Look What You Made Me Do,” a limp, candied missive, had been engineered to dominate both radio and streaming. (Last week, Swift’s label reduced the price of the single from a dollar to sixty-nine cents.) Cardi B’s fans, who go by #BardiGang, launched a campaign online, encouraging people to stream and buy “Bodak Yellow.” Forces aligned to give us one of the most dramatic music stories of the year.

Cardi B Talks Wedding Planning Following Offset Cheating Drama

Earlier this month, Cardi B addressed questions about her relationship with rapper Offset after video surfaced of the Migos star with another woman. In response to being quizzed about why she still seemed to be with him, Cardi seemed to rely heavily on the belief that the next man would likely cheat too, so there was no point in leaving a man she truly wanted to be with.

“Well if people are talking about it and keep asking me how I feel about the situation why not let them know? Right or wrong? No, it’s not right for a n—– to cheat,” she wrote on Instagram. “But what you want me to do? Go f–k me another n—-? Start all over again and get cheated on again? This sh-t happens to everyone. People handle they relationship different soo.”

Since sharing those revealing statements, Cardi was quiet on social media for a little while, allegedly because she was struggling with allergies. But she’s returned to the Internet, and to going back and forth with followers who have things to say to her, good and bad, particularly about her fiancé:
